So as most of you may or may not know, I’ve started a new job recently where I work 3 12 hour shifts on Friday, Saturday, Sunday. That is why you haven’t seen me around lately on the weekends. Anyway because of my new schedule I have to do the open workouts right after they are announced Thursday night so I’ve decided since I can’t be there on Friday’s with you guys I would start a blog style post every week of the open giving you my thoughts and possible strategies to take on the workout that week.

So going into this I was feeling pretty good about it and my initial thoughts were to just try to keep moving. So I came out of the gate with a pretty slow/moderate pace. I ended up going unbroken on all my toes 2 Bar which helped my score. If you are unable to complete 8 consistently I would break them up into attainable sets to keep you moving, hopefully like 4 and 4 or 5 and 3 with little rest in between. There are only 8 per round so burn out on these isn’t really an issue. The next movement was the DB hang clean and Jerks which I was kind of excited about when I saw them. I went unbroken on these as well. The problem I had was that my left arm felt very awkward doing these for the first few rounds so make sure you practice before you get going, especially on that weak arm. Get into a rhythm and grind out all 10. Also work on transitioning from one hand to the other because you don’t want to put that thing down. Standards require you to stand completely up before starting that hang clean so judges and athletes be aware! You do not necessarily have to show complete extension when transitioning hands though. And then comes the rower, this is when you try to go all out. Like I said, burn out isn’t really a factor, your score is going to depend a lot on how fast you can get that row done. So a tip on the rower is figure out the fastest way you can get in and out of that thing because transition time is gonna be huge. I found a strap tension that I didn’t have to strap in tight so I could put my feet in and pull them out without touching it with my hands. So my suggestion for this one is to try and keep moving on the t2b and c and J’s, go hard on the Row and breath on the t2b to catch back up. Good luck and have fun. I finished with 10 rds + 23 reps. Probably going to give it another go on Monday. Definitely not one of the toughest open workouts but it’s a fun 20 minutes.
